Meanwhile my faithful wife has been popping out children, 3 boys and 2 girls, the girls are married off to France and Wales for Alliances, i take the isle of man, part of the Netherlands for some reason, its all looking real good, all this in a single lifetime, suddenly a raiding party lands at Norwich, my capital, they are in and out so fast i can't even mobilise my army to repel them, besides the gold they take, they capture 4 prisoners, my heir, my daughter, and 2 random courtiers, i mobilise my army, we gut them on the beaches easily but my kids aren't with them, which is the first oddity that annoys me about CK3, they have magically teleported all the way to the far north of Sweden, to the 1 single **itty wooden castle of this teeny weeny clan, and here in lies my dislike for the casus belli system, they took my son and heir, my daughter, 2 other children under my protection, why on earth can i not get on a boat, sail my 4000 men to santas grotto and unleash holy hell upon them?
No matter, i restart and get a somewhat less brutal beginning, this time thousands of French don't turn up in the first week, so i start expanding, slowly, working my way up England, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, my big break comes eventually when the petty king of Mercia is excommunicated, the pope, who i have been befriending is only too happy to give me a claim to all of Mercia, and there armies are weakened from fighting Norse, its too much of an opportunity to miss so i move in, and after a brief war i now control all of central and northern England, everything not held by Wessex. I start my story as Ceorlwulf, custom made king of East Anglia in 867, i like starting off small and working from there, i usually start as Mercia which is already a challenging start but i fancied something a little more challenging, well i regretted that, a few days into my start the Barony of Montaigu declares war on me (?!) and 3200 soldiers land in Norfolk, i have just shy of 900 men from the 2 counties i start with, its a bloodbath, game over, i was king for 18 days. I have always loved CK but my biggest gripe has always been the casus belli system, i understand the need for it and the depth it could add but really believe its still needs a lot of work, ill get to that in a minute because i want to start at the beginning.
I brought CK3 at release, played a lot of the predecessor and i played a lot of this when it came out, even at release i remember the ridiculously negative story lines that came out, everyone's a fornicating psychopath, i remember them working on it in fact but it seems its still pretty wild.
